John Patterson

If it involves navigation, calculation, timing, or precision, you can predict that John Patterson has done it – and done it well. A competitive mid-distance runner and jazz musician through college, he is also an enthusiastic fly fisherman and downhill skier. He has piloted planes, power boats and sailboats. He is also an avid golfer who has played Scotland’s finest courses – from St. Andrews, Turnberry and Troon, to Gleneagles, Carnoustie and Muirfield. And he loves to read books about history, science and philosophy. Like Dava Sobel’s Longitude, which explores the development and utilization of timekeeping pieces in the navigation of early sailing ships. Or Jared Diamond’s Guns, Germs and Steel, which discusses how geographical and environmental factors influenced societal development and helped shape the modern world. The usual stuff…

And John has always carried that same level of focus, passion, and precision into his professional pursuits as well.

Over the course of his 30+ year investment banking career, John has completed over 100 transactions and advisory assignments, many for publicly traded companies. In the healthcare sector, his focus has been on healthcare services, including providers, payers, IT, business services, distribution, devices, and products. And John has extensive relationships in the private equity community who are actively investing in middle-market healthcare services companies.

In previous roles, John has served as Managing Director in the healthcare groups at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette (Credit Suisse), Deutsche Bank Alex. Brown, and RBC Capital Markets. He has significant startup and operating experience as the CFO for a technology startup in the digital media space, and as co-founder of a private equity-backed dental services organization focused on pediatric oral health.

Mr. Patterson received his BA in Economics from Bucknell University and an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is registered with FINRA as a General Securities Principal and has Series 7, 24, 63 and 79 licenses. We’re just glad to have his beautiful mind focused on our clients’ endeavors here at Avondale since 2022.
